- NEW VERSION AWSOME!!!, March 23, 2005
"This gun is definitely the most underestimated gun we have ever shot. We all love this gun. It is by far our favorite. This is the second version of this XM series.. When we first opened the box, we knew this gun was big. Having owned the UHC MP5 SD3 prior to it, we saw that this gun was much bigger and heavier. Having the stock at its fullest point out was almost too big. It reaches 35 inches at its outermost point. It was also just larger all-around. The mag, the barrel, the stock, the body, it was all so huge. This wasn't a bad thing; don't get me wrong. We were excited to see how this gun performed, having heard that the UHC MP5 SD3 was "the best spring rifle out there".
Then we tested it. Ace here recalls it detail for detail. This is now in his words: "The guns were delivered to my house (suckers...), so I was able to get the first test on this gun. I filled up my mag and tried to put it into the gun. The freakin spring let loose and I was left with bb's in my face. This turned out to be a problem that I later fixed with some warranty-burning mods. Anyways, I finally got the mag in the gun and shot at my sticky target. Holy crap, the target was on the floor. Powerful shot, I knew this was a new model. I'd have to tell Shortyusa about that (lead to getting me some juicy store credit. Muahaha). I picked up the target to make sure I didn't destroy it and innocent rodents that might have been behind it. I was dissapointed to see that the bb was far left. After a few more shots I saw that the sights were just off. I unscrewed the four screws on the front sight (warranty burned in 15 minutes. Good job Ace...) and turned the sight in the correct direction. I was lucky enough to have placed it in the right spot, because my next shot was a bullseye. This gun was very accurate and I was very happy with it so far. After further testing, we found that this gun has just about the same range as the TM XM177 (money-sucking losers... even though I wish I had some of their models...) I have used both guns and the new model is way better than the older model and even gives Tokyo Marui (TM) a run for their money (a heck of a lot of money... shipping from Tokyo, what do you expect?). I was and still am very happy with it's performance."
We do, however, have some complaints about this great gun. First of all, there was the sights issue. When we first got them, we were mesmerized with the power and range. Then we got to noticing about the accuracy problems. It was a little too off for our obsessive compulsive taste. So, we had to start unscrewing the front sight and tweaking it a little left or right. It wasn't that hard but it was definitely a gripe. The next, and biggest problem, in Hotshot's taste, was the handle on his gun. It SQUEAKED. Pretty badly, too. I had to hold the gun with my middle finger on the bottom of the trigger guard in fear of the freakin' gun falling apart. It really wasn't all that bad, but a major stealth bum like myself hated it. So, we took, the handle off and electric taped the inside and voila! it was fixed and perfectly sturdy. The stock is also a little shaky. We're not actually sure how to fix it completely, so we deal with it even in tight situations. Oh well. The mag spring also is a little too taut, I guess you could call it. It is really hard to lock down. It slips a lot and you might want to consider fixing it, and how you do it is up to you. Ace ended up taking apart his mag and using a spring from his sacrificed MP5, but it was worth it. HotShot eventually had his spring loosen up a little; he got lucky.
Suprisingly, this gun is amazing and is underestimated because of its earlier model. The only reason we have modded it so much is because we are so hardcore stealth oriented that we need to be silent. This gun is definitely one of the best spring airsoft guns under $100 and is actually incredibly durable. Don't waste your time paying more for shipping from TM than the actual cost of the gun..."

- Review on HFC XM177 Airsoft Spring Rifle, March 24, 2005
This gun, in comparison to other guns i have purchased from this site, is more high quality. I have been ordering from this site for a year or so, and i have owned about 20 different guns. The gun barrel is made out of medal and is very sturdy. The overall feel of the gun is outstanding. It is very solid all around and it has the three-point adjustable stock which is great too. The clip for the gun is a whole different story. when you lock the spring in place to put bb's in, it pops back up frequently and discharges all the bb's into your face or into the gun. If you release the clip from the gun with bb's still in it, it dicharges all of them as well. Granted, my clip was broken when i opened up the box, but the overall engingeering of it is still crappy. It does not have hop-up either. Your shots are very accurate for about 30 feet, but after that, they dip down a little. It is not too significant, but it does dip a bit. Other than that, the gun is a great buy.

- VERY RELIABLE...except one thing..., April 02, 2005
It is a great and amazing gun, great accuracy, and power, everything a hardcore airsofter could ask for...except for one thing. If you like slings, do not get it, the front mount (under the barrell) keeps on popping out and can jepordize the whole gun, but overall this baby is the greatest rifle ever made.

- ONE OF THE BEST GUNS OUT... PERIOD., March 30, 2005
Some of the reviews for this gun are just wrong. This gun is completely reliable, and has plenty of power, and if you use a .20 gram bb, you will have sniper grade accuracy. If you want an M16 variant, buy this one or the panter arms m16a1. Ive owned the XM177 before, untill one of my friends purposly gave it a baseball homerun swing it into a desk and shattered it. Now i own the M16a1 just because it is a little newer, and i like the grip and stock better. DONT LISTEN DO ANY REVIEW THAT IS NOT A FIVE......... THIS GUN SURPASSES JUST ABOUT ALL OTHER SPRINGERS. The one i had lasted me a year and was still going strong when that putz broke it. The magazine issue is true however. The mag does tend to spit out bbs, but not all the time. Only wometimes. Not a big deal however. The looks of this gun are great and extremely detailed. The name XM177 stands for experimental model 177. the 177 is for its caliber. It is a caliber that is 17/100 inch and has low recoil. It is the same gun as the m16, with a smaller bullet. THIS GUN IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANY NEW AIRSOFT PLAYER, OR ANY COMBAT HARDENED VETERAN.

- My Personal Favorite, April 13, 2005
When I got the gun out of the box, i said, "Oh my god, this looks so cool." I took it out and shot it at my targets. Now these where real police targets with metal. (my dad was a cop) The gun left a huge dent.
The mag. problem is a relitive problem. But you just have to be carful. I replaced the mag with a new spring and hold. It worked. I adjusted the sights to the right just a tad. It takes regular tuning. About once a month.
I love this gun. It desrves not a 5 but a 20.

- Awsome looking gun, May 20, 2005
ok when i first got this gun i was like wow its really detailed! Then i went out back and shot it a couple times and it was dead accurate. this gun is a good gun but the first signs of trouble are when the barrel starts to wobble around a bit. Then the wobbleing got worse and it was really pissing me off then about a week later i was pulling back of the charging handle to cock it and the whole front barrel fell off. The worst part is it cant be fixed the casing which holds the whold front of the gun had cracked. It was plastic two plastic hooks held it in place, Come on that should be metal not cheap plastic. Overall this is a very detailed and cool gun but if you like the M-4 look get a Panther A-15, Kitty Kat, the other new one i cnat think of , or get the new classic army spring rifle. But its a good gun till it breaks, mine took about 3 months to break but it eventually did maybe mine was defective but watever if u want a really good and accurate spring rifle just get a super nine like me. Hope this helped

- Good GUN, June 04, 2005
This gun is a great gun It isn't too heavy but its alittle heavy compared to most. This is a serious gun you know with this gun on your side you have won. This gun has a good aiming system. This gun is also good because you can fit alot of BB's in the magizine.
