- A solid performer...
...when it performs.
Let me get this out of the way - the gun feels great and shoots great. There's no doubt that KWA put out a solid performing sidearm, and it's a blast to fire. It packs a punch, hop up is great (though you can't adjust it without a tool, so zero in before competing), and the recoil feels wonderful. Gun's got a nice finish and a solid weight too, which is a plus. The outer barrel is plastic though; it doesn't affect performance, but I know some people prefer metal barrels.
The issue here is that the thing has a ton of quality control issues. Right out of the box, the safety lever didn't work. I flipped it to safe, pulled the trigger, and the hammer fell. Not very safe.
When it actually came time to test fire it, the slide locked on every shot. There were more rounds loaded, and there was sufficient gas in the mag, but the slide would just keep on locking. Once in awhile it'd cycle completely, but I would say that it locks prematurely more often than it actually cycles.
The barrel tends to leak BB's as well. When lowering my weapon I would occasionally have a round drop to the ground, so I'd have to cock the gun and load another round before I could fire. This doesn't always happen, but I had it occur 3-4 times in one target shooting session. I'm not sure if this is a normal occurrence with GBB pistols though.
The legal garbage that Umarex slapped on the slide and grip is a buzzkill too...not really a big complaint, but it sticks out like a sore thumb. The actual trademarks fade and wear over time, which is normal, but the legal jargon still looks bright, white, and good as new, which is disappointing. I don't see why they couldn't have treated the actual trades as well as the huge wall of text on the side of my gun.
I've checked out the forums for this gun, and the safety issue seems to be very common. The slide locking was mentioned a few times, and I didn't see much notice of barrel leaks. The redeeming factor is that when you purchase this gun, you get KWA's customer service along with it, which is fantastic. If you have any issues when you get your gun, they'll usually take care of it for you. It IS a hassle to have to send it back though, and I'd like my product to be finished and functional when I first receive it.
As a whole, I am disappointed in my purchase because of the issues I mentioned. If you happen to get a flawless one, or if you don't mind sending it in for repairs, then you'll be more than satisfied with this gun. For me, the experience out of the box killed it, dropping the rating from what probably would have been a 5/5 to a mere 3.
