- Great Utility
If you have extra mags for your sidearm, you'll need someplace to store them. Your pocket is a piss-poor place to put them as if you need them and your pocket is bound up due to crouching, it can slow your draw time. These are well constructed and won't up and rip apart anytime soon. They are meant for battle and work well for it. While installing onto the UTG vest, they were a little stiff to get the MOLLE straps through. All the UTG stuff has this. After a little finessing, you can get it just right and lock it on. The stiffness adds support to the vest so it won't compress and ride uncomfortably.
Anything with a flap over it isn't quick draw. Hence the easily removable quick velcro flap. If you get into a situation where you are using your sidearm instead of your AEG (such as a sniper in close quarters inside sniping distance), you would unsnap the retention strap allowing you easy access to your magazine. You MUST PREPARE for the event that you need the magazine. There is a tab on the velcro strap on the front side of the strap. The velcro closure is on the rear side of the strap. The tab is of no use to opening the retention strap easily. This might be a small design flaw. If you prepare your retention strap, then you just grap the butt of the magazine and slap it into home, decock the slide and have at it.
The mag holder works for all size magazines up to 45cal (real magazines folks, not just airsoft ones) depending on shap and size. Tested with Glock 9mm, 40cal and 45ACP law enforcement magazines. The strap closed fully and there was no room for the mag to slide out without releasing the strap. These are great mag holders minus the tab on the wrong side. Get them in your favorite color and put your mags with easy access.
Stiffness aids in vest not collapsing and riding uncomfortably
Works as intended with no unintentional impediment on drawing a mag
Stiffness requires a bit of patience to get it right, but can be done - once you get it, you'll be able to do it repeatedly
Tab for quick-release of retention strap appears on wrong side of retention strap - does not allow for quick removal and requires preparation of magazine holder for quick drawing
