The Walther P99 was introduced in 1997 and achieved instant stardom as the new weapon of MI6ís secret agent James Bond of which it has been ever since. The P99 was highly advanced for its time with complex ergonomics incorporated into its polymer frame which is still argued to be one of the most comfortable grips of any production pistol. It also featured such things as a loaded chamber indicator, decocker and firing pin indicator.

Maruzenís rendition of this high tech pistol is officially licensed by Walther through Umarex and bears authentic markings on its slide, grip and frame. This pistol is very realistic in appearance as well as its operation. It has a double/single trigger with a working decocker and functional firing pin indicator. It also features an ambidextrous magazine release which is conveniently integrated into the trigger guard for left or right hand operation. The pistol is mainly constructed out of a synthetic composite with the lower frame being molded from a fiber reinforced material.

Being made in Japan this P99 is a highly efficient and excellent performing pistol. The lightweight slide provides a high cycle rate with a strong yet crisp recoil action. It is equipped with an adjustable hop-up system and performs best with .2g, .23g or .25g high polished BBs.

5 out of 5- Efficient, well-made, good ergonomics

On propane the Maruzen/Umarex P99 behaves erratically: the slide action is occasionally unable to cock the gun. The pistol would not consistently lock the slide back upon emptying the mag as well. However, recoil and accuracy are as expected of a Japanese gbb on propane.
On HFC-152a (gas duster) the pistol performs flawlessly: each shot cycles the slide back properly to consistently cock the gun. Accuracy is on par with my propane- powered TM Hi Capa 4.3. There is less pronounced kick or recoil, but the action is still crisp and smooth. Slide locks back on empty mag consistently as well.
Exterior finish and details are executed very well. The plastic slide should not pose much of a concern as there are metal rails within the slide. On duster gas the pistol goes thru 3 mags of .20 bbs. Overall, excellent value for this price ($159.99).

5 out of 5- Truly outstanding

I have only ever used this pistol on propane, so these are the results I have had with it. I will probably update later on with my results on Duster.

This is easily the most comfortable handgun ever made (the real-steel version I mean). The ergonomics are outstanding, and you could shoot it all day. The airsoft version is no different. The sights are great, and it feels excellent in your hand.

    Once you get to shooting:

I would agree that on propane it behaves erratically at times. The kick is sometimes too strong for the slide release to catch the slide, so pay attention when you're shooting, or you may find yourself shooting air instead of bb's.

On propane, this thing kicks like a mule on speed. It feels outstanding. It's also very loud and intimidating, which is a plus when you're shooting the neighborhood kids in a war, but in a proper airsoft game you may want something a little quieter.

It took me a long time to dial in the hop-up, and once I got it down it still took about 100 rounds to steady up. DO NOT LOSE THE HOP-UP ADJUSTMENT SCREW. I did, and it took me three weeks to get a replacement from Umarex. I love the guys, but they don't have the most knowledgeable service department.

    A note on durability:
I've been using propane, and as I said, it doesn't always lock the slide. The slide-release has been going up partially while the slide is trying to lock, but it rebounds too soon. As a result, the cut-out on the slide where the slide-release catches has become slightly worn. This has no performance related issue, but it does mean that when there is no empty magazine in the gun, and the slide is locked, it only takes a slight movement to make the slide go forward again. This isn't a problem, so much as a very minor inconvenience, and was bound to happen sometime as the gun is made of plastic.

    Pros:
    Feels truly amazing
    Shoots very well
    -Consistent
    -Powerful
    -Accurate
    Looks incredible
Makes you feel like James Bond
    Kicks like a mule
    Good capacity
Very efficient (1 or 2 full mags, certainly 1 on a propane fill)
Extended magazines are available if you know where to look

    Cons:
    Plastic, although still hefty
    Umarex doesn't have awesome service
    only a 60 day warranty
To adjust hop-up the gun must be taken down. This can become tedious while you dial it in.
    Magazines are outrageously expensive

Definitely worth having for the player or collector.

5 out of 5- Great back up weapon

this gun is great! It's quick accurate and has a satisfying pop behind each shot. I've actually been able to use this as a small varmint gun thats how well it handles

5 out of 5- Great Gun

Love this gun achieves great groupings as well as accuracy at appropriate ranges the hop is tricky and would recommend turning it up relatively high and would also recommend getting a duster gas adapter though much easier and cheaper since the metal slide is impossible to find and be careful with the slide because i dropped mine from like 5 feet and the back sight smashed but besides that the gun was fine so even though its abs polymer, the gun is solid and as long as you keep it oiled, its fine on propane too
