The ECHO 1 Advanced Sniper Rifle has finally been released and it looks like ECHO 1 just threw down the gauntlet for the sniper rifle market. Lightweight, powerful and whisper quiet the ASR is everything you would want in a precision rifle.
Equipped with an M4 LE style 6 position collapsible stock and M4 pistol grip the ASR mirrors the ergonomics of the M4 rifle so it will have a very familiar feel for those of you already running an M4 series rifle. The pistol grip is actually much slimmer than those found on AEG’s so it feels more like the grips found on the real steel M4 rifles. The main body and forend of the rifles stock are made out of fiber composite making it strong yet lightweight. Its forend has a rounded contour and is textured for a solid grip. At the front of the forend is a metal quick detach bi-pod which legs can be folded back along the forend or forwards along the barrel. If you wish to run the rifle without a bi-pod altogether it can be removed simply by pressing a lever.
The receiver, bolt handle, bolt and barrel of the ASR are solidly built from metal for maximum durability and ruggedness. Along the top of the rifles receiver is a weaver mounting deck for attaching optics whether it be a scope, red dot sight or night vision. The rifles receiver is configured to accept either a right handed or left handed bolt, both of which are included with the rifle. The rifle comes with the right handed bolt pre-installed but can be switched out for the left handed bolt quite easily. Please be aware that this handle does not come with instructions however installation is a relatively simply procedure (click here for more info on installing the bolt handle
The ASR is equipped with a brass 6.06X455mm inner barrel which is mated to the same adjustable hop-up system as found in the UTG MK96 so it would be able to accept aftermarket barrels cut for the MK96 hop-up. The ASR’s barrel is 44mm shorter than the MK96’s so be weary of this if you plan on upgrading the barrel. Its cylinder is also the same size as the MK96’s so springs, spring guides and pistons are also compatible. The ASR magazines, while they appear to be very similar to the MK96 magazines, do have a different mag catch design and therefore are not interchangeable. However, ECHO 1 was nice enough to include a total of 3 magazines with this rifle so you shouldn’t need spares any time soon.
Now, the main question of “does it shoot well"? Saying this rifle shot “well” would be the understatement of the year. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this rifle shoots extraordinarily well. In fact we had to back up from the firing range, across the parking lot and over half way through our warehouse before we found the rifles maximum range. Firing .4g rounds, it is possible to get consecutive hits on a torso sized target out to 80 yards (240 feet). Its muzzle velocity was clocked at 460 fps with a .2g BB which was surprising since the rifle is quieter than most spring pistols. Because of this power we only suggest using BBs weighing .27g or more to maintain a level trajectory. For best accuracy we recommend .4g BBs.
No matter if you need a long range precision rifle for sniping or for target practice the ASR is a serious contender.
