It was early 2007 that UTG first introduced their Mk23 Navy SEAL pistol which quickly became one of the most sought after weapons of backyard skirmishers across the country. Its power, accuracy and magazine capacity just could not be beat for its low cost. Unfortunately, due to some trade-dress mumbo jumbo the UTG Mk23 had to be discontinued to the disappointment of airsofters everywhere. Fortunately, UTG did not give up and has been hard at work designing a more advanced and politically correct version of the famed pistol. Enter the new UTG U978 Navy SEAL pistol.

Overall the appearance of this beefy pistol has not varied all that much from the original, although there have been some key changes. The pistol now features an weaver rail integrated into is frame so it is finally able to accept practically any aftermarket tactical light or laser sight you choose. The grip has also been narrowed and has a more ergonomic design for better comfort and control. Never fear, the U978 does still accept the same 26rd Mk23 magazines of its original counterpart so if you still have a stockpile of them they will not go to waste. Other features have been carried over from the original pistol as well which include white dot combat sights, ambidextrous magazine release and a 14mm CW threaded barrel. Each pistol now features its own unique serial number on its frame too which is good for telling yours apart if your buddies are using the same guns.

In performance, its power has not changed at all as it still punches out shots at over 225 fps using a .2g BB which is quite impressive for a spring pistol. However, there have been some changes to the barrel as it now has a much more aggressive hop-up system. The pistol will over hop a .2g if you are shooting at more than 20 feet away and even .25g BBs tend to climb at bit. Although it is very unusual for a spring pistol, the hop-up on the U978 has been calibrated for .28g BBs. Why, you might ask, would a spring pistol be calibrated for heavy match grade ammo? As we found out, it is because it will shoot really, really, really far with them. Using .28g BBs this pistol is able to connect with a torso sized target at 140 feet away and will continue to carry for quite a bit further making it one of the farthest shooting spring pistols in our inventory.

Comes with two 26 round magazines and a mock suppressor.

WARNING!!: Do not tighten the mock suppressor on this pistol!! Simply screw the silencer on until it hits the base of the threaded tip. Do not force the silencer past this point or you will break the pistols barrel!!

It is possible to overload this pistols magazine. If the pistol is cocked while the magazine is overloaded it can damage the guide rod and other internals. The easiest way to avoid this is to fill the magazine to maximum capacity and then remove one BB.

    4 out of 5- Great Game/Battle Pistol!

My brother was given one of these as a present for his birthday, and it's been working like a dream even months after. For a spring pistol, this really is as good as it gets. But as good as this airsoft pistol is, there still are some things that aren't the best about it.

    Pros:
    -Range (long for a pistol)
    -Durability
    -FPS

    Cons:
-The silencer (... it's good quality, but it can easily break the threaded barrel on the gun. I personally wouldn't use it, but if you want to -be careful!)
-Size (Some people might say this gun is "too big" but it is after all, a replica of an MK23 which is a large handgun in real life.)
-Heavy shooting curve (can be fixed with heavier bb's)

    Hope this helped!

5 out of 5- Totally worth the money

Whether you're plinking or in a war this is a great gun/sidearm. I recommend using any kind of .23 for the best range:fps ratio. I also have the version 1 to this gun which was almost the same thing besides the grip. The original version had more of a 45 grip and not a Glock grip. I really recommend not using the suppressor. Okay it looks cool but it takes down the range and it WILL eventually bust your barrel. I was always gentle with mine until my cousin dropped it. It was broke when it hit the ground and now it has a range of ~50 feet.

Overall a great gun although I do not recommend using the suppressor at all. The range really is astounding on this gun. Great for beginners or anyone on a tight budget.

    Thanks for reading!

5 out of 5- EPIC AWESOMESAUCE!

I am going to start by saying, I also have a UTG MK23 as well. This pistol is close to perfection. I used it at a recent event in Wyoming where I was driving a technical, I got at least 2 kills with this.

I was shooting KSC .30 Perfect BB's and this was spot on. It is incredibly comfortable in the hand and very pointable. I can see the plastic construction and the fact that it is a springer being a downside to some people but as long as you focus on the fundamentals of marksmanship you really shouldn't need to make a follow up shot.

    Pros:
    Accuracy
    Weaver Rail
    Magazine Capacity
    VERY Pointable
    Comfortable in the the hand
    Rate of fire (for some)

    Cons:
    Rate of fire (for some)
Plastic Construction (again, for some, it does cut down on weight though)

4 out of 5- Great back-up for any airsofter

Ok, first things first. It's a spring pistol, so you can't expect anything too fantastic. HOWEVER, this gun is different. What I look for in a pistol is durability and performance, naturally. This gun has both and hit's the nail right on the head, lacking slightly on the durability side, being entirely plastic. It's has a construction that is simple, yet very function-able and eye-appealing.

The power is decent and just enough too let your target know he's been hit, but that's not what I personally like most about this gun. The range is great at around 120 to 135 ft., making this a great back-up for any position on the team that lacks range in his primary, (sub-machine gunner or shotgunner).

    Pros:
    power
    range
    looks
    magazine capacity
    weight
    price

    Cons:
beside the extra mag, there are no more to purchase from my knowledge
it's a bit large and may not fit in some holsters
mag release isn't created for lefties (not a problem for me though, being a righty and all)
HEAVY shot curve (is easily fixed with heavier BB's)
    constructed entirely of plastic
nothing else that I can think of...

P.S. the extra mag thrown in is a life saver and the mock suppressor was constructed of a tough metal and really was the icing on the cake for me (didn't actually affect sound, but for free who can complain)

    GhilleMan out...

5 out of 5- This is soooooooooo awesome!!!!!!

OK so i just got this in the mail. First off totally sick.I love this gun, it looks so cool, it's powerful, and accurate. There is a wicked hop up on this gun so even .25g start to hop a little. I recommend .28g. Also it comes with dual mags and suppressor.

    Pros:
Powerful (for a spring pistol its great)
    Accurate
    Looks cool
    Nice hop up
    Big mag cap
Comes with 2 mags and suppressor
    Pretty cheap

    Cons:
Can't adjust the hop up but still isn't that too much of a con at least you can use .25g or .28g.

Overall i would recommend this as a secondary if you don't want to buy new gas all the time. It's probably the best spring handgun on shortys.

4 out of 5- Great spring pistol

I bought this for my friend, for her birthday, and she LOVES it! I can see why, it's a very solid feeling gun and comes with an extra mag and a suppressor. Unfortunately, I have not had the chance to see how it works in the field, but considering its sturdy construction and seemingly smooth functioning, I'm sure it will do fine.

The only thing I would warn people about is the size - this thing is a beast. I have big hands and I even found it a bit oversize. To me this just adds to the coolness factor though, so it's all good!

    3 out of 5- okish

I've had the first model for about a year but it broke after a few months. the spring shot out and the mag won't stay in the gun. it was very powerful but broke easily. i have not been able to find the replacement parts for it and i would recommend getting as a short term gun.
