With theirs aggressive and edgy styling that challenges even their previously released MTC, ECHO 1 has definitely taken a radical departure from conventional design for their new SOB series. Looking like the brainchild of a Hollywood weapons master, these highly modified submachine guns are remarkably versatile and highly customizable with many aftermarket parts and accessories.
This stubby little guy is the Special Operations Branch model 2, otherwise referred to as the SOB2, which is the most compact AEG that ECHO 1 currently offers. Featuring a unique skeleton stock, which collapses as well as folds, this gun can be as short as 15 inches long making it the perfect companion for room clearing. Its stock plate even has a sling swivel pre-installed so its ready for a one point sling right out of the box. And, while it may be small, this little SOB2 is as solid as a rock and just has heavy. Thanks to its metal upper receiver and integrated rail interface system it tips the scales at 7.25 lbs.
Based on the PDW design, the SOB2 can house up to a 9.6v AK Type stick battery inside of its upper receiver so you do not have to be bothered with an external PEQ box or battery pouch. And, for the southpaw operators out there, it features ambidextrous fire selectors and a centrally located magazine release for ease of operation by either left or right handed shooters. The SOB2 is also compatible with TM spec MP5 AEG series magazines so if you already have some of these in your loadout you will not have to run out and get all new magazines.
When we started sending rounds downrange we quickly learned that this little gnat has some really sharp teeth. It has been fitted with a lighter spring which gives it a higher cyclic rate than its bigger brother but was still capable of punching out shots at 370 fps. Even though its primary role is for CQB we found it was still more than capable of reaching out past 50 yards with deadly accuracy.
Shown with but not included: SOCOM Gear Noveske KFH, ECHO 1 Low Profile Vertical Foregrip and Umarex Walther MDS Reflex Sight.
Comes with: 2 magazines, 9.6v 1200mah battery pack, 250mah trickle charger and cleaning rod. Battery charge time: 4.8 hours
The ECHO 1 SOB2 AEG Airsoft Gun was put through trials for addition to the N.Y.R.M. Armory inventory.
During a 24 hour training evolution we put over 10,000 rounds through it. During our test we only made three adjustments. 1. We used an Intellect battery because the stock battery showed a low power rate 2. Added a EOTECH XPS2 SAGE SIGHT.3. Then a Specter 1 point sling.
We experienced no feed problems,After running 500 rounds of .20 bio-val, after the break in we removed the mag and lubed the gun. Then did a chrono to see the numbers.
We shot several rounds through a Madbull Chronograph results as follows:
High FPS: 411.9 FPS
Low FPS: 406.6 FPS
Average FPS: 409.0 FPS * Might be a hot gun for some C.Q.B. events.
We decided to change out the battery and run a 11.1v 1800 mAh LiPo battery an we achieved a 19 RPS increase with the LiPo battery not bad. We saw Echo 1 did a great job in beefing up the internals. The only problem we had was wobble on the stock adapter but an easy fix with some Velcro.
Bottom line get this gun. You will love it.
